Confidential advisor

We do our best to ensure that scouting is a fun and educational pastime for everyone. We want everyone who is a member of Scouting Marnix van Sint Aldegonde to feel at home and safe there. However, it may be that you find yourself in a situation that you would like to talk to someone about in confidence. This applies to both youth members, their parents and volunteers. For these types of situations, a confidential counselor has been appointed within Scouting Marnix van Sint Aldegonde.

What does the confidential counselor do?

The confidential counselor is available for a conversation and advice if it is difficult or undesirable to discuss these questions directly with the person(s) involved. This can be about: bullying, alcohol, drugs, violence or unwanted intimacies. But it can also be about other matters that relate to participating in Scouting. For example, financial problems that prevent a member from participating in a camp.

As the name 'confidential advisor' suggests, everything that is discussed with theconfidential advisor is treated confidentially. This means thatno one needs to know what was discussed with the confidential advisor or thatthe confidential advisor was contacted. Other people (board, parents, involved parties) are only informed if this has been agreed upon. Only ifcriminal acts are involved, contact will have to be made, in consultation, with the chairman of the association board and the competent authority.

The confidential advisor will try to find a solution together with the reporter. This could be a conversation with the management or the board, for example. If desired, the confidential advisor can also be present to support the reporter. The confidential advisor will not act as a mediator. The confidential advisor can also put the reporter in contact with people or institutions that canhelp with the specific problem. In more serious cases it can also provide support in reporting the incident and initiating the unwanted behaviour protocol.

Who is the confidential counselor at Marnix?

Rik Terlouw has been involved with Scouting Marnix van Sint Aldegonde for many years in the past. He has been active as an explorers/rowans guide, among other things. He has stopped actively leading for quite some time now and has since become our group's confidant. Rik is not present at the clubhouse every week and is therefore very capable of listening impartially and unbiased. Rik can be reached by e-mail at vertrouwenspersoon@marnixvansintaldegonde.nl
